The Barbate reservoir

The reservoir of Barbate belongs to the Andalusian Atlantic Basin, is located in the municipality of Benalup and built over the Barbate river.

Surface: 2,537 hectares

The dam is located in the valley of the Barbate river, downstream from the confluence with the rivers Alberite and Rocinejo, and is the key element of the flood protection system of irrigated and irrigable areas downstream, including the area occupied formerly the Laguna de la Janda, drained and dried in the 50s.

The body of the dam and reservoir are located within the Natural Park of Alcornocales.
